Texas History
Texas has a history spanning many centuries. In 1718, the Spanish missionaries happened to be the first European people settling there.
Over the next century, they came in more numbers and started building missions and more. In 1810, hostile natives rebelled against them and attained their freedom in 1821. After the War of Mexican Independence, Texas became a part of Mexico.
However, this arrangement did not last long and after the Texas Revolution the state turned became an independent country in 1835. But the Texas Republic that was formed newly was incapable of defending itself from Mexican incursions. Ultimately, it negotiated with the United States to protect its safety. In 1845, it joined the union and the arrangement has been continuing thus ever since.
